Crystal clear turquoise waters surround Turks and Caicos’ eight islands and over forty cays, sun swept white beaches and breathtaking coral reefs. Most say, “The best sunsets they have ever seen.” Development on Provo is tasteful and modern, with consideration to its natural surroundings. There are no crowds, no riffraff and no solicitations on our beaches “to have your hair braided”.
And thus, Turks and Caicos Islands have preserved a coveted, relaxed pace that vacationers and residents alike have searched the world for and found on Provo. Unspoiled. Beautiful. Inviting. Providenciales is the Caribbean as it was meant to be.
Turks and Caicos is an incredible adventure you won’t find anyplace else. Come to Provo for incredible scuba diving, fishing, windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling and other water sports. Providenciales, along with its world-class snorkeling and scuba diving, also boasts an 18-hole championship golf course, ranked in the top 10 best Caribbean golf courses by “Caribbean Travel & Life.” Turks and Caicos Islands are also listed in the top 20 hot spots in the world for bill fishing by “Sport Fishing” magazine.
Providenciales boasts one of the world’s top ten beaches at Grace Bay – per (Conde Nast Travel). You can lazily stroll along a magnificent span of pure white sandy beach, which stretches for 12 miles! There is no other place on Earth that can match its beauty of turquoise water lapping up against Grace Bay’s beautiful white sands. It is truly a “professional photographer’s” paradise to see these astonishing colors. Our beaches are unspoiled, and unlike many United States’ beaches, you can plant your umbrella and sunbathe in privacy.
There are many stretches of beach where you can claim hundreds of feet as your own territory; even in front of popular resorts, a 40-foot privacy radius is not uncommon. Meet JoJo, a local dolphin (lives in the wild) who lost his family pod years ago, and subsequently has adopted Grace Bay vacationers as his pseudo family. JoJo checks in, frolicing with snorkelers in Grace Bay many times per week.
Providenciales and its sister islands making up the Turks and Caicos archipelago is in its own micro Sunbelt. To the south Dominican Republic boasts immense tropical air and humidity; and to the north the true Bahamas can also be dripping wet with humidity – Turks and Caicos is an anomaly to its surroundings. A very arid environment with the indigenous plant being the “Turks Head Cactus.”
This is a testimonial to its average humidity of only 40%, average daily temperatures in the mid-80’s, constant light trade winds to diminish heat, and many consecutive days of sunshine (without rain) each month. Yes, there may be a shower lasting only one-half hour sometimes, but seldom does it rain for a whole day straight. It is often asked, “Does Turks and Caicos have a rainy season”? The answer to this is that there is no predictability or rainy season, when it rains for two straight days (could be in April, could be in September) this is our rainy season. Again, while there are no guarantees in nature, the probability that you will get rained out of a whole day on your vacation, is minimal. Achieving a suntan is guaranteed.
Although the island is unspoiled and pristine, as more and more have discovered Provo and subsequently returned, real estate development has been inevitable. Learning from mistakes of others islands and other over-developed vacation icons of yesterday, the government and locals have adopted strict zoning and development requirements. So while Providenciales is exploding with new beachfront resorts –
they are being built without spoiling Turks and Caicos Islands’ beauty – no high rise structures, maximum spacing between properties, minimum set backs from beaches and abundant landscaping. In lieu of these resorts starting to dot the beachfront, the beach at Grace Bay is, and always will be, pristine because of the government’s foresight. Most accommodations, having been built in the last 10 years, are very modern and filled with all the amenities. Your preference dictates what caliber accommodations you wish to stay at, as Provo provides a complete spectrum of choices: all inclusive, bed and breakfasts, inns, hotels, resorts, five star hotels and villas.
Where there are world-class resorts, there will be restaurants. People repeatedly ask each day, “Where is the best place to eat”? The perennial response is, “all the restaurants are excellent, what type of restaurant do you like?” There are restaurants to fulfill every theme, nationality and budget except no fast food chains as of yet.
